Is Yoga a religion?

Yoga is NOT a religion at all. It is a science of the breath and movement.

What is Yoga?

The word yoga, from the Sanskrit word means to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as “union” or a method of discipline. A male who practices yoga is called a yogi, a female practitioner, a yogini. Today most people practicing yoga are engaged in the third limb, asana, which is a program of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide the physical strength and stamina.

What can I expect in a Yoga class?

First is very important that you do not eat right before class. It is best to refrain from a big meal 2-3 hours before class. Eat a light snack if you must, hydrate your body and have an open mind, expect nothing, let your body and mind connect and be kind to your body. Each Yoga class incorporates movement, postures, breath, and meditation. Exercises will be taught in the form of a specific sequence of exercises. Each class is unique try as many classes as you can until find what fits the most to you.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move easily in are best for yoga, loose, stretchy pants work best a towel is a good idea. Yoga is practiced barefoot. Bring a yoga mat and light blanket if you have one, otherwise we do have complementary mats and other props for our students.

Which class should I take?

We teach all levels in most class. We suggest classes titled Hatha, Stretch Yoga, Candlelight Yoga, Chair and Restorative great for beginners. In Yoga, the pace is slower and your instructor will give you modifications as need it. How many times per week should I practice?

Don’t over think it or set unrealistic goals do what you can and don’t worry about it. Yoga is powerful that even one hour a week you will experience the benefits of the practice. We suggest starting with two times a week, for an hour class and stay consistent. You will find that after a while your desire to practice will grow naturally and you will find yourself doing more and more.

I’m not flexible—can I do Yoga?

Yes! Come as you are and you will find that yoga practice will help you become more flexible. Many people have this misconception and the truth is the opposite, the less flexible the better yoga will be for you. Come in and find agility, balance, strength, coordination, and enhanced cardiovascular health, as well as a sense of physical confidence and overall well-being, we call it MAT REJUVENATION.
